'My mother-in-law tried to poison me but her plan spectacularly backfired'

t seems no matter how hard they try, some people just cannot form a healthy relationship with their in-laws.

And when this is the case, more often than not, tales of jaw-dropping antics between a partner and the spouse’s parent often end up on Reddit’s r/JustNoMIL forum.

In one recent post, which has garnered thousands of likes and hundreds of comments, a woman claims that her husband’s mother attempted to “poison” her food while she was staying with her, to prove some kind of point.

However, it seems the older woman’s plan backfired spectacularly when she ended up in the hospital instead of the daughter-in-law.

The Reddit post reads: “Recently my husband and I decided to sell our home. During the final closing period, we had about two weeks of limbo between places to live. Ultimately we had to choose between staying with my MIL or a hotel. Due to the virus and wanting to save some money we decided MIL was slightly safer.

“When we were there she insisted on cooking lunch and dinner for us, which was a nice change of pace, but of course I was on guard. A couple of times during dinner we had discussions about food sensitivities and I reminded her AGAIN (something that’s come up repeatedly during the last decade) that I had a salt sensitivity inherited from my family.

“We spoke AGAIN about how it causes me to bloat and raise my blood pressure, how it contributed to my father’s heart attack and health problems.”

The woman goes on to say that following these conversations all of the food suddenly started to taste 10 times saltier than before.

She continued: “I gave her the benefit of the doubt at first that this could be her normal way of cooking until my SIL who lives with her mentioned it was too salty to eat and totally different from the norm. She couldn’t even choke the meals down!

“We started bringing our own food and refusing to eat her meals that she’d try to pressure on us.”

Just as it came time for the couple to move and settle into their own home, they get a call from the mother-in-law, saying she’s in hospital with a really bad kidney stone.

“She stayed a couple of days until it painfully passed and mentioned the doctors asked if she’d recently increased her salt intake.

“Ultimately it turned out she had inadvertently poisoned herself with her salty, salty meals,” the woman added.

Many people commented on the post to share their thoughts, with many saying karma had clearly stepped in.

One person wrote: “This was karma at its finest.”

“It’s really not a nice thing to say, but by eck, that was a very satisfying read,” admitted a second.

Someone else replied: “When the petty bull**t backfires.”

“Sound like she’s one salty old b***h,” added a different user.
