Dancing On Ice star Vanessa Bauer has said she’s had the ‘worst few days’ after testing positive for covid-19 and being kicked off the ITV show.
The professional skater then suffered a backlash after saying she complaining she didn’t have any of the virus symptoms – including a persistent cough, loss of smell and tiredness – but was still having to isolate for ten days.
Taking to Instagram, Vanessa has now apologised for causing offence with her comments, saying she’s been struggling after being forced to give up her Dancing On Ice spot.
She told her followers: “I realise it’s a bad thing of me to say because I know I’m so lucky to have COVID without any symptoms, and I know that a lot of families and people are suffering so much because of bad COVID symptoms and I’m fully aware that it probably wasn’t the smartest thing to say so I do apologise for it.
“It’s really hard to come to terms with it, that you’ve got this virus and yet you can’t even feel it, when it’s pulling you out of everything in your life that’s bringing you joy in a way, so that’s what I mean,” Vanessa explained.
The German skater added: “It’s very frustrating knowing that you can’t be doing what you’re supposed to be doing, but I do feel very, very lucky to not have symptoms, to be completely fine, and I’m very grateful for that, and I really feel with everyone who’s suffering physically but also mentally a lot.
“We’re getting through this together guys. I’ve had the toughest, the worst few days. I’ve cracked so much guys, but I’m trying to see the positives.”
Vanessa and her partner, the Emmerdale actor Joe-Warren Plant, were both asked to quit the show after they tested positive for coronavirus.
After managing to avoid any of the illness that can be caused by the virus, Vanessa has been using her time in lockdown to perfect her yoga moves.
The star has been sharing clips of herself in a number of athletic poses to her social media feed.
Vanessa and Joe’s departure from the skating show has been just one of a number of incidents to hit the content this year.
The number of departures and injuries has been so high that ITV made the decision to pull the show off air this week due to the shortage of contestants.
The Sun has reported that ITV sources have claimed Vanessa and Joe could be asked to return to the show if they test negative for the virus to help boost the ailing numbers.
The same offer has apparently not been made to other pairings because they all missed more than one public vote.
