The Chase's Mark Labbett slams bosses for prompting Anne Hegerty's 'diva strop'

Mark Labbett has slammed the producers of The Chasers Road Trip after Anne Hegerty shared why she had a “diva strop” on the show.

The 55-year-old Chaser, known as The Beast on the ITV quiz show, weighed in with his view of what happened after Anne was dismayed by an impromptu camping trip.

Anne, 62, has Asperger’s Syndrome and she does not like to be surprised as she has to know what is happening in a day so that she can cope with what is to come.

So when she was taken to a campsite with Mark and fellow Chaser Shaun Wallace during their road trip, without her prior knowledge, she didn’t take too kindly to the situation.

Anne, who is known as The Governess on the show, took to Twitter to explain why she had a “diva strop”.

She wrote: “#ChasersRoadTrip #TheChasersRoadTrip So, it’s quite possible that the campsite was actually extremely nice (I have since been told that it was).

“However, we had been promised a) a hotel, b) no more surprises. Ergo diva strop.”

Mark also weighed in and replied to Anne, addressing the fact that autistic people “hate being surprised”.

He tweeted: “And having been told that autistic people hate being surprised, the producers promptly wasted 90 minutes of our time springing this surprise…”

Mark also said that he was having his own struggles at the time as he was starving.

He continued: “It was 6.30 pm and I got Hangry.”

After receiving a mixed reaction to his explanation, Mark returned to Twitter to add: “For those who don’t like me that is your absolute privilege.

“I am a competitive egomaniac.

“I also absolutely will protect and support @anne_hegerty every time #chasersroadtrip.”

In the episode, the brainy threesome were taken to a glamping site but they were not keen to embrace the situation.

Mark is seen speaking to his agent on the phone after refusing to enter.

Mark said: “Hi David, they are trying to spring camping on us in a farm. We don’t want to do this.

David replied: “Just make sure you use plenty of swear words so they can’t use the footage.”

Mark then demanded to be “returned to civilisation” before he was joined by Anne in chanting: “We shall, we shall not be moved.”

Shaun agreed with the protest and asked their driver to turn around and take them away.

He said: “There’s no way I’m sleeping in a field, absolutely no chance.

“I’m a hotel geezer, fluffy pillows, running water, none of this glamping or clamping of whatever the trendy term they use for it is, I don’t do it.”
