Sir Rod Stewart has revealed he has apologised to Sir Elton John in order to repair their damaged friendship and set a good example to his kids.
The two knights had a fall-out in 2018 after 76-year-old Sir Rod made disparaging comments about 73-year-old Sir Elton’s farewell tour.
The Do Ya Think I’m Sexy singer branded Sir Elton’s 300-date Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour “dishonest”, arguing his chart rival was “money-grabbing” and that the tour “stinks of selling tickets”.
Sir Rod and Sir Elton have had a decades long friendship where they have gone to great lengths to prank each other, but the taunts proved too much when Sir Rod made his comments on US TV.
Now the lads are mates again after patching things up.
According to The Sun, Sir Rod said: “I say to my kids, ‘A man apologises, go and apologise to your mother’. We’ve just made up as friends again, me and Elton.
“We’ve always been fierce enemies, as you know, through the years, but it’s always been at a playful level.
“But we had the worst row, like a married couple. It went on forever.”
In their respective autobiographies, Sir Rod and Sir Elt give examples of their outrageous rivalry over the years.
When Rod held his Blondes ‘ave More Fun Tour in the 1970s, Elton plastered billboards on the opposite side of a street of the tour title to say “But Brunettes make more money”.
And another incident saw Elton hire a sniper to shoot down blimps that Rod had hired to promote himself.
In his recent autobiography, titled Me, Sir Elton made reference to Sir Rod’s bitchy comments about his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
He wrote: “I thought he had a f***ing cheek, complaining about me promoting a tour while he was sat on a TV show promoting his own tour.
“I had no idea what I’d done to upset him so much, which was ironic, given the hours I’d put in over the years deliberately trying to annoy him.”
Explaining himself, Si Rod has since said: “I was a bit spiteful when he announced his tour. I regret it, I really do regret it. So we’re mates again now. I do love him.”
