Preston from The Ordinary Boys' life after CBB - from engagement to balcony fall

Preston made his name as the frontman for The Ordinary Boys, but many of us will remember him from his time in Big Brother in 2006.

The nation watched as he fell for the charms of Chantelle Houghton, who had been brought in as the first ever non-celebrity CBB housemate.

Chantelle had to trick the other stars into thinking that she was actually famous, and while her ruse didn’t last long, it was her love affair with Preston, who turned 39 this week, that really stole viewers’ hearts.

Their instant bond and endearing flirting won us all over, but at the time, Preston, whose real name is Samuel Preston, was with his longtime French girlfriend, Camille Aznar.

A week after the series ended, Preston proposed to Camille, but it seemed he never forgot Chantelle and the engagement lasted just days.

Just a month later Chantelle moved into his flat in Brighton.

They got engaged three months after CBB and were married in August of that year.

Preston and Chantelle became the celebrity golden couple, covering countless magazines and taking up column inches.

But their marriage lasted less than a year, and by the end of 2007 they were officially divorced.

Chantelle went on to have a baby, Dolly, now eight, with fellow Celebrity Big Brother winner Alex Reid.

After the split, Preston briefly got back together with Camille, but the reunion wasn’t to last.

In 2008 The Ordinary Boys split up and their final gig was held in London that summer.

That same year, Preston moved to Philadelphia in the US where he stayed for three years.

Preston embarked on a songwriting career and wrote the number one hit Heart Skips a Beat for Olly Murs.

He also wrote the duet Beautiful by Enrique Iglesias and Kylie Minogue and his song Dressed to Kill was re-recorded by Cher.

In 2010 he starred in Ultimate Big Brother, the final series of Big Brother to air on Channel 4 and had an awkward reunion with Chantelle.

But Chantelle and Preston grew close again and she even invited him to her wedding to Michael Strutt.

The following year The Ordinary Boys reunited with just two original members, Preston and drummer Simon Goldring, and went on tour.

They also performed gigs in 2013 and 2014 and released an album in 2015.

In 2017 Preston was rushed to hospital after falling from a balcony during a drunken night out in Denmark.

He told his Instagram followers at the time: “If I haven’t been texting you back it’s because I fell off a 2nd floor balcony in Denmark and broke my leg in 4 places, pelvis, hip, foot, ribs, shoulder blade, punctured a lung and smashed my left hand to pieces [sic].”

Preston shared a picture of himself in a wheelchair that he had to use during his recovery.

He added: “I know a wise man once said ‘boys will be boys’ but seriously I drank too much and was careless and please don’t abuse your privileges. I think I’m going to do the next 30 years sober.

“Thank you to my gf @loveisenough for flying over to spoon feed me and my mama for doing the same. To quote Garth Marenghi ‘it really hurts'[sic].”

In 2018 Preston got engaged to Emily Smith, but it’s unclear if they are still together.

He signed a new publishing deal the same year and spoke happily about it on Instagram.

Last summer Preston and Chantelle reunited for an interview with new! magazine, but they ruled out any chances of rekindling their romance.

“I think it would ruin a really important relationship as it stands,” Preston said.

While Chantelle said she “can’t be with someone now if they didn’t like me being friends with Preston.”
