When it comes to organising the home and decluttering there are lots of experts who have their own methods – from Marie Kondo to The Home Edit.
But if you don’t want to learn from a book or TV show and would prefer a quick fix, one mum might have the answer for you.
A post written back in April by Parenting blogger, Steph Pase, on her site Just Another Mummy Blog, has proved popular online and it lists the top 20 items she suggests putting in the bin now to avoid unnecessary hoarding and mess in the home.
Steph, who has garnered 191,000 followers on Instagram and has more than 17,000 followers on Facebook, often shares a look at how she organises her house, including making the most of her fridge space and how she stores her children’s toys.
In this particular post, she claims the items are all things you won’t regret saying goodbye to and she’s also made a handy checklist you can print out in order to keep track while you’re tidying.
Here’s a look at the items that made Steph’s list.
How many of these do you still have lurking about in your home?
- DVDs/ Videos
- Coat hangers not in use
- Broken Toys/ Missing pieces
- Mismatched Socks
- Broken crafts
- Broken Stationery
- Dead Batteries
- Old Makeup/ Hair accessories
- Old Broken Jewellery
- Expired spices
- Tech Accessories + Boxes
- Broken Appliances
- Clothes with Holes
- Old Sheets you don’t use
- Old Scripts/ Medications
- Old Receipts
- Old Gift Vouchers/ Menus
- Shoe Boxes
- Unused Gifts
- Kids Clothes that don’t fit
It’s worth giving all your items a double check before putting them straight in the trash, just so you don’t bin anything of importance.
And always remember to be careful to dispose of things carefully and correctly.
Steph adds: “Please remember when discarding any items such as medications to dispose of them properly such as dropping them off at your local pharmacy to be disposed of safely!”
