Wellington, filmmaker James Cameron, has arrived in New Zealand to resume shooting for the much awaited 'Avatar' sequel, along side quite 50 crew members.


The unit arrived in Wellington, New Zealand on Sunday to organize to resume filming of the film series. The 54-member unit arrived by chartered plane.

However, filming won't begin immediately because the team will need to be isolated first.

"I want to figure on 'Avatar', which we aren't currently allowed to try to to under state emergency laws or regulations. So it's all on hold immediately ," Cameron said.

Producer John Landau took to Instagram to share that the crew would be isolated as per the rules set by the New Zealand government.

Work on the 'Avatar' sequel began in March with lockdown orders by the New Zealand government thanks to the corona virus epidemic.

According to Diversity.com, New Zealand's borders are still officially closed and "Cameron, Landau and foreign crew elements have used a border exemption clause for foreigners considering significant economic value".

The New Zealand government has given an in depth guideline on how presentations should be handled amid the epidemic. When 'Avatar' begins filming, it'll be New Zealand's first foreign film to use production protocols.

On 22 May, Landau shared that the workers were moving back to New Zealand.

"Our 'Avatar' sets are ready - and that we couldn't be more excited to travel back to New Zealand next week," Landau wrote, sharing an image of the 2 underwater vessels utilized in the films.

"Check out the Matador, a high-speed forward command vessel (bottom) and therefore the Picador jetboat (top) - can't wait to share more," he said.

Earlier in an interview with Empire for the new issue of Empire of Cinema, Cameron shared that he was confident that his much anticipated 'Avatar 2' would be released as per the plan.

'Avatar 2' is currently slated for release on December 17, 2021.
It is believed to be a sequel 12 years after the events of the primary film. It follows Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) as he roams the Pandora planet with a replacement family during which he has Netiri (Zoe Saldana).

The first part was an enormous success, becoming the highest-grossing film when it had been released in 2009. Its worldwide record was broken last year by 'Avengers: Endgame'.
